IceDogs Cruise Past Petes 5-1 for Fifth Straight Win

November 7, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs won their fifth straight Saturday night, defeating the Peterborough Petes 5-1 in front of a crowd of 5,006 at the Meridian Centre on Saturday night.

The IceDogs were looking to keep the momentum going and came out flying. Vince Dunn opened the scoring just 2:11 into the game with a rocket from the point, on the powerplay, for his sixth of the year, and second goal in as many games. The Petes would go on to tie it up with a powerplay marker of their own just before the period's midway point. The IceDogs went on to battle hard with a few penalty kills of their own, before getting another powerplay of their own. They would make no mistake once given the opportunity as Graham Knott buried a rebound at the side of the net just as the powerplay was expiring to give the home team a 2-1 lead that they would carry into the intermission. The shots on goal favoured the IceDogs 9-8 after the first.

The second period had the IceDogs start with a couple of strong penalty kills, as goaltender Brent Moran held down the fort to keep the lead safe. The 'Dogs would then extend their lead to 3-1 when Josh Ho-Sang got the puck flying down the wing, and fed a beatiful backhand pass across to an open Jordan Maletta who potted his team leading 10th goal. Moran went on to have a couple more great saves, robbing a Petes forward who was in prime position in the slot, with a quick flash of the leather to keep it 3-1 after 40 minutes. Shots on goal favoured Peterborough 10-5 in the period.

The IceDogs offense would keep rolling into the third period and a 5:00 major to the Petes at 10:48 gave the home team a chance to put the game away and they would take advantage of the opportunity. Brendan Perlini hammered home a one timer for his eighth of the year, before Christopher Paquette put home a rebound on the team's fifth of the evening, with both goals coming on the powerplay. The shots on goal favoured the IceDogs 11-8 in the period and 26-25 on the night. Goaltender Brent Moran was a difference maker, stopping 25 of 26 shots, and the Dogs' power-play was a force too hard for the Petes to handle.

Vince Dunn, Ryan Mantha and Brent Moran were the night's three stars, with Dunn and Mantha combining for four points on the night.

The IceDogs will be back at home next Friday against the Ottawa 67's and next Saturday night against the Oshawa Generals. Tickets for these and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
