Rivermen Beat Louisiana 5-4 in OT Friday

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Peoria Rivermen lost an early 2-0 lead and a late 4-3 advantage before outlasting the Louisiana IceGators 5-4 in overtime Friday night. The win, Peoria's second in a row, lifts them to 3-2-0 with one more game against the IceGators Saturday night.

The Rivermen started the scoring with 2:48 gone by in the first period when Adam Stuart redirected a Mike Donnellan shot from the point to give Peoria the 1-0 lead. The Rivermen added to their lead with 7:37 remaining in the first as Timmy Hall came up with a bouncing puck in the Louisiana zone and beat IceGators netminder Jonah Imoo top shelf for the 2-0 lead. Louisiana got one goal back on the powerplay late in the first. Anthony Pisano got control of the puck behind the Rivermen net with a 5-on-3 IceGators man advantage and he passed to Jeremy Boyer who put it past Rivermen goalie Kyle Rank for the 2-1 score.

The IceGators tied the game and jumped out to a lead early in the second, as Chris Wilson tied it at 1:15 and Blake Hietala gave the IceGators a 3-2 lead 1:33 into the second. Following a Rivermen time out, Alec Hagaman sniped a puck past Imoo to tie the game 3-3 at 3:48 of the second period. Hagaman struck again with 10:08 to go in the second Hagaman circled behind Garrett Vermeersch on a run and beat Imoo to give Peoria the 4-3 lead, prompting Louisiana to call their own timeout and pull Imoo in favor of Adam Courchaine.

The IceGators got even with the only goal of the third period at 10:52 when Geordie Wudrick fired a puck home from the right boards to tie it at 4-4. The game remained tied through regulation, and the Rivermen got a powerplay with 29 seconds remaining in the third period as Tyler Barr got called for high sticking. The man advantage continued into overtime when at 1:14 Hall buried a slap shot from the slot to give the Rivermen the 5-4 overtime victory.

Rank earned his second win in as many nights in net as he stopped 15 of 19 shots against over 61:14 of action.
