Regina Pats News Release

Swift Current, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (7-7-1-0) matched up with the Swift Current Broncos (7-8-2-0) for the first time since the two met in the 2015 WHL Playoffs. Jon Martin scored twice, sending the Pats to a 3-1 loss.

The first period of tonight's playoff rematch between the Pats and Broncos saw the hosts try to establish a physical game early. That resulted in a pair of early Pats powerplays, but they wouldn't be able to capitalize. Colton Kroeker nearly got the teams going with a late shorthanded break. The Pats forward raced in alone, put on a couple slick dekes, but the puck rolled just has he went to the backhand to finish. The Broncos used their own powerplay near the end of the frame to open the scoring as Cavin Leth banged a rebound past Tyler Brown. Just 24 seconds later, Sam Steel opened up Taylor Cooper who snapped his first of the season by Landon Bow for a 1-1 tie.

The Pats penalty kill was forced to work some overtime on an early double minor and held the game to a 1-1 tie when the dust settled. 11:36 into the period, Jon Martin gave the Broncos the lead after a strong individual effort and great centering pass by effort by Tyler Steenbergen. Tyler Brown came up large for the Pats, turning away 17 of the 18 shots he faced in the period to hold the game to a 2-1 score.

The Pats put the pressure on in the third period and it was Landon Bow's time to shine. The Swift Current goaltender turned away numerous Pats scoring chances including a breakaway from Austin Wagner. With the Blue and White on the attack late and Tyler Brown on the bench, a giveaway in the offensive zone turned into Jon Martin's 18th of the year as the Broncos held on to down the Pats, 3-1.
