Zaun's Visit to Victoria on Saturday

VICTORIA, B.C. - He's an opinionated television personality - love him, or hate him, Gregg Zaun is the 'Manalyst,' described many times as Canada's baseball version of Don Cherry, colorful attire included.

On Saturday, the former MLB catcher and World Series champion (with the Florida Marlins) will be in Victoria for the HarbourCats HotStove event at the brand new Holiday Inn and Suites on Wale Road in Colwood, the first major event at that new hotel.

"The response has been great, people want to hear what Zaun has to say about the Blue Jays season and playoff run, the off-field change in the GM role there, and I'm sure he'll get a lot of questions about the managing style and decisions of John Gibbons," said Brad Norris-Jones, who has been busy organizing this event as the Assistant General Manager of the HarbourCats, along with Richard Michaels, Director of Community Events and Partnerships for the HarbourCats.

"I'm getting asked - yes, there are still some tickets available, and many people want to know what items will be available in the live and silent auctions."

Doors open at 6pm on Saturday, and for last-second tickets, contact Brad at 250-888-2003. The event includes food, two drinks, and the chance to reminisce about one of the most interesting summers in recent history - not just for the Blue Jays at the big-league level, but also the HarbourCats and local youth baseball, with so many championship teams.

HarbourCats Head Coach Graig Merritt and assistant Joe Meggs, the director of operations for the University of Washington baseball program, will be in attendance, and the HarbourCats are expecting to hear word on Saturday as to their Baseball Canada Senior Championship bid for bringing the nationals to Victoria in 2017 and 2018. Baseball Canada is holding meetings in Saskatoon this weekend, including major bid decisions.

"We have a next-level announcement to make that night with Spinnakers, who has been our local beer partner since the start of the franchise, and we think people will be excited about that news," said Norris-Jones.

About the West Coast League

The West Coast League features a competitive level of play and recruits players from high-calibre baseball programs at colleges and universities across North America. The WCL has 11 teams, with franchises located in B.C., Washington and Oregon. The 54-game regular season in 2016 starts on June 3 and runs through August 7, with playoffs following that. The home-opener and season-opener for the HarbourCats in 2016 is Tuesday, June 7, against the Wenatchee AppleSox, at Royal Athletic Park. The HarbourCats played additional home exhibition games on May 31, June 1, June 22, and July 3, giving the team 59 games in 69 days.
