Royals Remain Undefeated against the Blades

SASKATOON, SK - Coming into tonight's game, the Blades have never beaten the Vicotria Royals during their tenure in the WHL and were hoping to fix that as the Blades, welcomed the world, and former Blade Alex Forsberg to SaskTel Centre.

Late in the first with the Royals outshooting the Blades, Dante Hannoun tips the Joe Hicketts point shot to make it 1-0.

Then a long flip pass Hail Mary style lead to a Vladimir Bobylev breakaway that beats Nik Amundrud who made 20 saves on the night to make it 2-0 Victoria.

After a disallowed goal, the Royals would respond with another Hicketts point shot that this time leads to a rebound in front for Ryan Peckford to make it 3-0.

In the dying seconds of period number two, Logan Fisher tips in the Ralph Jarratt point shot to make it 4-0 Victoria.

Those kinds of shots have been a common theme tonight for the Royals as the defensive zone coverage has had trouble keeping up with the shifty forwards. "They would get the puck to the point and get a clear shot right through and that's something that we got to work on," adds Nick Zajac on the type of goals that have been scored in tonight's game.

Connor Gay gets the Blades on the board on a nice pass from Hebig to go backhand for his fourth goal of the year to make it 4-1 with just 58 seconds into the 3rd.

However a turn over at the Blades blue line leads to another breakaway for Nagy. Initial shot is stopped but Bobylev gets the loose puck to stuff it home for his second of the game to make it 5-1 and ultimately put the game away for the Royals.

Lot of tempers start to flare as Cam Hausinger and Chaz Reddekopp square off as frustration boils over for the Blades.

Though there were some costly mistakes made by the Blades, Head Coach Bob Woods knew the effort was there from his team. "We out shot them but when we made mistakes they were costly mistakes and they made us pay for them. I don't think it was a 5-1 hockey game by no means, the effort was there, guys battled but we couldn't score and gave up some pretty good opportunities."

With this loss, the Blades now hold a 2-8 record at home. Home ice hasn't been as kind as the Blades would hope but they get a chance to add a win as they host the Calgary Hitmen Tuesday November 3rd. "We got to figure out a way to win at home it should be a fun place to play and you should never have to worry about seeing scores like this, it should be where we come in and beat teams in the first period and that's what you look for and that's what we're going to have to get out of our guys," said Bob Woods about the importance of winning at home.
