Mavericks' Late Rally Falls Short against Americans

Kansas City Mavericks News Release

ALLEN, TX - The Missouri Mavericks late rally was not enough to catch up to the Allen Americans on the road Saturday night. The Mavs regulation win-streak came to a close in the 2-1 loss to the reigning Kelly Cup Champions.

The Mavericks and Americans played through a scoreless first period, with both teams applying strong pressure early on to their opponent.

The Americans opened the scoreboard at 10:25 of the second period when Jonathan Parker bested Mavs net-minder, Parker Milner, for a 1-0 Allen lead. Dyson Stevenson assisted on the play.

Allen then doubled their lead 2-0 over the Mavericks in the third period when Chad Costello, aided by Greger Hanson and Justin Baker, scored at 6:12.

Mavericks leading point-scorer, Tyler Barnes, ended Missouri's scoreless evening with 1:15 remaining in regulation when he notched an empty-net goal with the help of Jesse Root and Rocco Carzo.

The late rush was not enough to catch the Americans before the final horn signaled the end of regulation and the Mavericks first regulation loss of the season, 2-1, since their season-opener on Oct. 16 in Anchorage, AK.

Milner made twenty-six (26) saves in-net for the Mavs Saturday night through 58 minutes of play. Americans net minder, Joel Rumpel, had a standout night, stopping all twenty-two (22) shot attempts by the Mavericks while between the pipes for Allen.

The Mavericks play their next game on the road at the iWireless Center in Moline, IL when they face the Quad City Mallards for a Wednesday night match-up on Nov. 4 at 7:05p.m. The Mavs play at home on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they host the Wichita Thunder at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
