Oil Kings Take Back Throne

Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - A week off should have had the Blades raring to get back in the win column after a successful road trip through the central division. But as they learned quickly, lack of effort does not win hockey games.
"I thought it was probably one of our worst efforts," said Head Coach Bob Woods. "It's frustrating because the young guys shouldn't be our best players every night and that seems to be the case right now and we got to figure it out. Our older guys need to take a little initiative and be better."
Colton Kehler opened the scoring off a rebound to make it a 1-0 Edmonton.
Just 13 seconds after Kehler scored, Tyson Gurninger extends the lead to two nothing.
"I've seen guys make mistakes out there that our older guys shouldn't be making and it's a focus thing and they have to be ready to play, and lead by example," added Bob Woods on the effort on his veteran players.
A huge opportunity for the Blades would get a 5 on 3 opportunity mid way through the second period to try to get back in the game but unable to capitalize as they would ultimately finish the night going 0 for 7 on the man advantage.
After failing to capitalize with a two man advantage the Blades take an unfortunate bench minor for too many men that lead to a power play goal for the Oil Kings as Brett Pollock rips a shot from the point to extend the lead to 3-0.
The lone goal for the Blades was scored in the third period from Nolan Reid who got his first of the season.
The goal looked to spark some momentum for the Blades but the effort afterwards affected the team's momentum throughout the rest of the hockey game and ultimately putting the hopes of a comeback to sleep. "When I scored I thought it would be a turning point but the momentum didn't get going and we got to come out harder," said Nolan Reid on the possibility on a come back in tonight's game.
The Blades have to put this game behind them as the Blades hit the road to Swift Current Friday night to take on the Broncos.
