San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tuesday, October 27, 2015) - The 3rd Annual Maggie's Wish Breast Cancer Charity Auction raised $50,175 Sunday after the match between the San Antonio Scorpions and the New York Cosmos. Scorpions players helped auction off their game-worn, one-of-a-kind pink jerseys by performing in live and taped skits for fans at Toyota Field. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to ThriveWell Cancer Foundation, a San Antonio-based non-profit that funds cancer research and patient support.

"None of this could have been accomplished without the amazing efforts of the entire Scorpions organization and the help of the fine ladies of ThriveWell," said Maggie Hartman. "This proves that if we all work together as a team, one day cancer will be a thing of the past."

The auction started shortly after the game between the Scorpions and Cosmos ended on Sunday afternoon. Fans were able to bid on each player's game jersey (and identical backup) in addition to other signed memorabilia from the sports world. Forward Eric Hassli's jerseys commanded the largest bids of the day as each of his shirts went for $1,900 to two different fans. The Maggie's Wish Breast Cancer Charity Auction has now raised a combined total of over $125,000 in the past three years for research into fighting breast cancer and support for breast cancer patients.

"The generosity of our fans truly amazes me and I'm so happy that we were able to raise this much money in Maggie Hartman's name," said Scorpions president & general manager Howard Cornfield. "We set a new record this year, even after having to move our game to Sunday because of the weather. Our players were fantastic and once again showed their dedication to the Soccer for a Cause mission."

The San Antonio Scorpions first planned a charity auction to raise money for the fight against breast cancer in 2013. The event was named Maggie's Wish after Maggie Hartman - wife of team owner Gordon Harman - was diagnosed with breast cancer later that year.

The Scorpions play their final match of 2015 on Saturday, October 31, at Minnesota United. For information regarding Scorpions 2016 season tickets, call (210) 495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
