Prince George Cougars News Release

Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that 1997-born forward Jesse Gabrielle (Moosomin, SK) has been named WHL Player of the Week. In four games this week the Boston Bruins prospect scored five goals (two of which were game winners) while adding two assists and seven penalty minutes. The Cougars were 3-1 during that four game span.

Gabrielle was acquired by the Prince George Cougars in a summer trade with the Regina Pats and has quickly established himself as a local fan favorite. In 11 games this season, Gabrielle has posted a team high nine goals, 11 points, four multi-point games and two game winners. He also leads the WHL with three shorthanded goals.

"Since arriving in Prince George, Jesse hasn't missed a beat," comments Prince George Cougars Head Coach, Mark Holick. "He's worked tremendously hard and has been rewarded appropriately for his efforts. He brings a great deal of energy and toughness to our lineup and we are happy that his hard work has been recognized by the WHL."

For his career, Gabrielle has suited up in 128 regular season games (with Brandon, Regina and Prince George). During that span he has scored 44 goals along with 37 assists for 81 points. He's also recorded 210 penalty minutes. He also has four goals and six assists in 18 career playoff games.

Gabrielle becomes the third Cougar in as many years to receive a Player of the Week honor from the WHL. Other recent recipients include: Jansen Harkins (March, 2015) and Todd Fiddler (January, 2014).

Gabrielle and the Cougars will look to continue their winning ways when they resume play Wednesday night in Kamloops against the Blazers.
