Buffalo Bisons, Northwest Arkansas Naturals Wager over ALCS Between Parent Teams

October 16, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

After yet another fantastic season of working together to bring their great brand of family and sports entertainment and value to their fans, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons and Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals have suddenly found themselves on opposite ends of the upcoming ALCS. While both clubs are part of the Rich Baseball Operations team, the Bisons are affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays while the Naturals are the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Confident in a victory for each of their respective parent clubs, Bisons' GM Mike Buczkowski and Naturals' GM Justin Cole have put their money where their (and their staff's) mouths are. The losing affiliated club has agreed to send their regional delights to feed the winning side's front office.

The friendly wager arranged between Buczkowski and Cole is as follows: Buffalo's Charlie the Butcher Beef on Week and Labatt's Beer will head south if the Royals win the ALCS. An assortment of Springdale, AR-headquartered Tyson products and Springdale-founded craft brew, Core Beer, will greet the Bisons front office staff with a Blue Jays' victory.

"It will be a fascinating ALCS, but I'm confident that the Bisons staff will be enjoying a fantastic lunch at Coca-Cola Field soon after the Blue Jays advance to the World Series," said the Bisons' Buczkowski.

"We look forward to another exciting ALCS featuring two worthy opponents in the Royals and Blue Jays. However, it will be doubly disappointing to the Bisons staff when the Blue Jays lose, as they will have lost the series and lost the opportunity to enjoy a great lunch courtesy of their friends in Northwest Arkansas," responded Cole.

The Toronto Blue Jays playoff roster features 13 former Bisons, including nine that played for the Herd this season. The 13-player list includes starting pitchers R.A. Dickey and Marcus Stroman as well as infielders Chris Colabello and Ryan Goins, outfielder Kevin Pillar and designated hitter, Edwin Encarnacion.

There are also 13 former Naturals on the Kansas City Royals' ALCS roster, including outfielder Terrance Gore, who played in Northwest Arkansas earlier this season. Among the core Royals players that appeared at Arvest Ballpark before helping Kansas City to the best record in the American League are catcher Salvador Perez, infielders Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas, outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon and pitcher Yordano Ventura.
