Blue Jays Advance to ALCS with 13 Former Bisons on Roster

The Major League parent club of the Buffalo Bisons, the Toronto Blue Jays, have advanced to the American League Championship Series and will face the Kansas City Royals in a best-of-seven game series for the right to play in the 2015 World Series.

This is the first time since 2007 that the Bisons parent club has reached a league championship series. That year, the Cleveland Indians lost in seven games to the Boston Red Sox with a roster that contained 17 former Bisons players.

This year's Blue Jays roster that came from two games down to defeat the Texas Rangers in yesterday's thrilling Game 5 victory contained 13 former Bisons players, including four players that began the 2015 season in Buffalo (Chris Colabello, Ryan Goins, Ezequiel Carrera, Ryan Tepera). Five others, Marcus Stroman (injury rehab) Aaron Sanchez (injury rehab), Dioner Navarro (injury rehab), Dalton Pompey and Aaron Loup, played for the Bisons at some point during this past summer at Coca-Cola Field.

While Toronto's ALCS roster has yet to be set, former Bisons pitcher R.A. Dickey is expected to once again be in the Blue Jays starting rotation for their series against the Royals. Toronto's ALDS roster also included 2014 Buffalo Bisons MVP Kevin Pillar as well as 2014 Bisons' International League All-Star and MVP of the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game, Liam Hendriks. Edwin Encarnacion, who homered in Game 5 against the Rangers, hit a grand slam during an injury rehab-assignment with Buffalo in 2014.
