October 13, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

VS. PATS: Tonight will mark the first of four meetings between these two teams and Regina will have the notorious title of being the first team from the East Division to visit the Canalta Centre in club history. Last year saw the two teams split their 4 four games with 2 wins a piece including a shootout victory by the Tigers on February 10th. Last season for the Pats it was Taylor Cooper who led the team in scoring against the Tigers with 5 points in 6 games split between Lethbridge and Regina, tied with last year's overage Braden Christoffer and Sam Steel.

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP:

Cole Sanford and departed Dryden Hunt led the charge against the Pats last season recording 3 points in 4 and 3 games respectively

Medicine Hat has held the advantage over the Pats in the past 5 seasons, sporting a 12-4-2-2 record, with a 7-3-0-0 record at home, however the home team last season only won 50% of the time

The Tigers are coming off their biggest defeat of the season and largest since December 13th, 2013 when they lost by the same score 7-0 to the Calgary Hitmen at the Saddledome

2015-16 WHL RANKINGS: Record (2-3-1-0).   Central Div. - 5th Eastern Con. - 11th Home - (1-1-0-0) Away (1-2-1-0)

TIGERS FAST FACTS:

Medicine Hat has dropped 3 straight games including an overtime loss to the Prince Albert Raiders and will look to climb out of the 11 spot in the conference tonight

The Pats had trouble scoring in their first 4 games, scoring 4 goals but exploded for 11 goals over last weekend, in what was 2 straight victories for the visitors

Medicine Hat fans will see two familiar faces in the visiting team lineup tonight as Daniel Wapple and Connor Hobbs make their first visit to the Canalta Centre. Hobbs played 12 games last season before being traded and Wapple played half of the 13-14 season for the Tabbies

Regina currently in 6 games this season have the 21st ranked penalty kill but also sport the 20th ranked power play, only scoring 3 times on the man advantage so far this year

ROOKIE/VETERAN MASH-UP: Rookies in the WHL usually have a difficult time adjusting to the pace of play and standards given out throughout the season. But for these two clubs they are seeing improvements every game by their rookies, especially Lane Zablocki for Regina and Max Gerlach for the Tigers. Both rookies currently lead all first year players on their respective clubs, with Zablocki tied for the team lead in scoring with 19 year old Adam Brooks. Both teams need their veteran players to mash-up well with their rookies as both currently sport 9 (Pats) and 7 (Tigers) first year players on their rosters. With the play of Cole Sanford and Trevor Cox so far this season, the rookies are provided secondary scoring for the Tabbies and should for years to come.
