Chicago Steel News Release

PLYMOUTH, MICHIGAN - Team USA (3-1-0, 6 points) skated to victory in their first-ever home game at USA Hockey Arena, defeating the Chicago Steel (1-3-0, 2 points) 6-1 on Friday night as six different players tallied goals for Team USA. Much of the first period was controlled by Team USA as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Zach Walker, Ryan Lindgren, J.D. Greenway and Chad Krys each scored for the host team in the opening frame.

Team USA would carry the momentum over to the early stages of period two, with Kieffer Bellows scoring 30 seconds in, causing Steel head coach Dan Muse to pull goalie John Lethemon in favor of goaltender Daniel Vladar. USA center Patrick Khodorenko greeted Vladar with a goal just 50 seconds later, making it 6-0. The Steel were able to turn things around for the rest of the period, outshooting USA 18-11. Defenseman Jere Astren got Chicago on the board at the 11:25 mark, intercepting a pass inside the blue line and firing a wrist shot through traffic and over the glove of USA goalie Jake Oettinger.

Oettinger made 28 saves in the game for Team USA while Vladar stopped 10 of 11. The Steel outshot Team USA 29-24 in the game. The Steel continue their first road trip of the season with an 8:30 p.m. ET game Saturday against the Youngstown Phantoms at the UPMC Lemieux Complex in Cranberry, Pa. The Steel then return home to Fox Valley Ice Arena on Friday, October 16 for a 7:30 p.m. CT contest versus Green Bay.
