Veleno, D'Orio Named to U17 Team Canada

CALGARY - Hockey Canada announced today Saint John Sea Dogs forward Joe Veleno and goalie prospect Alex D'Orio have been named to Team Canada for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The pair are among 66 players chosen to take part in the event, which runs Nov. 1-7 in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The players will be separated into three teams: Canada Black, Canada White and Canada Red.

Veleno, 15, has one goal and six points in eight games with the Sea Dogs so far this season. Saint John selected the native of Kirkland, Quebec, first overall in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft after he was given exceptional status by Hockey Canada. He will participate in the tournament as an underage prospect.

D'Orio, 16, has played eight games so far this season for the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League (QMAAA), posting a record of 4-4 with a 3.06 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage. The Sea Dogs selected the Sherbrooke product ninth overall in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Both players participated in Hockey Canada's National Teams' Summer Showcase in Calgary this summer.
