Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs picked up a big 5-1 victory over the Central Division rival Barrie Colts at the Meridian Centre on Thursday night!

The IceDogs started the first period off strong and hungry for goals, after a long rest from Saturday's game in Peterborough. Brendan Perlini got things started just 7:40 into the first on a feed from Josh Ho-Sang, with a perfectly placed top shelf shot. Matt Gillard would go on to score just under a minute later to really swing the momentum in the IceDogs favour. The team was well tested all around in the first, having to also kill off two penalties to keep their lead secure. The shots on goal favoured Barrie 7-5, at the period's conclusion.

The IceDogs strong penalty killing would continue into the second when Jordan Maletta intercepted a pass at the blueline to spring himself on a shorthanded breakaway, on which he would make no mistake, scoring to make it 3-0. Barrie would finally capitalize on an IceDogs penalty scoring on the powerplay 5:34 into the period to get on the board and make it 3-1. The IceDogs would answer back with a powerplay of their own and capitalize on their first try, as Brendan Perlini tallied his second of the night on a heavy wrist shot from the left circle. Perlini would not stop there securing the hat-trick by banging in a rebound off an initial shot by Mikkel Aagaard to make it 5-1. The shots favoured the IceDogs in the period, 11-5, giving them a 18-10 lead in shots through 40.

The IceDogs would finish the night strong, holding on to their 5-1 with great defensive play, leaving the Colts with only five shots to show for, for the second period in a row. Final shots favoured the home side 30-17.

The three stars of the game were all from the IceDogs. Brendan Perlini was the first star with his hat trick, while the second star went to Josh Ho-Sang who finished with two assists on the night. The third star went to Jordan Maletta, with his shorthanded goal.

The IceDogs will look to continue their strong play when they head to Erie tomorrow to face the Otters at 7PM. They will then return home next Thursday when they play host to visiting the Hamilton Bulldogs for the first time. Great seats are still available for this and all other IceDog home game and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations!
