Chicago Wolves Set Opening Night Roster
October 8, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves submitted their official Opening Night roster to the American Hockey League on Thursday, which means the team will feature 26 players when the Wolves start their 22nd season against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. Saturday in an Amtrak Rivalry clash at Allstate Arena.
"I think it's one of the best groups we've had in a few years," said Wolves head coach John Anderson, who enters his 14th season at the helm. "Obviously we aim for the Calder Cup every year." The Wolves launch the bid for their fifth league championship with a roster that features nine players who saw time in the National Hockey League last season: forwards Jordan Caron, Eriah Hayes, Justin Hodgman, Magnus Paajarvi and Ty Rattie and defensemen Andre Benoit, Chris Butler, Peter Harrold and Petteri Lindbohm.
Chicago welcomes back four of its top scorers from last season -- Pat Cannone, Paajarvi, Rattie and Jeremy Welsh -- as well as its top goaltender in Jordan Binnington. The Wolves also added three players who netted double-figure goals during AHL play last season in Danny Kristo, Evan Trupp and Zach O'Brien.
The Opening Night roster is as follows:
FORWARDS (16): Spencer Asuchak, Ivan Barbashev, Cody Beach, Pat Cannone, Jordan Caron, Jacob Doty, Eriah Hayes, Justin Hodgman, Danny Kristo, Zach O'Brien, Magnus Paajarvi, Zach Pochiro, Ty Rattie, Evan Trupp, Yannick Veilleux, Jeremy Welsh.
DEFENSEMEN (8): Konrad Abeltshauser, Andre Benoit, Chris Butler, Peter Harrold, Petteri Lindbohm, Jordan Schmaltz, Tommy Vannelli, Scooter Vaughan.
GOALTENDERS (2): Jordan Binnington, Pheonix Copley.
Chicago completed its preseason roster moves by assigning defenseman Jeremie Blain to Quad City (ECHL) and releasing defenseman Brett Ponich.
The Wolves are celebrating the start of the season with a free tailgate party from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Allstate Arena's West Lot, which will feature live music, free food and drink, face-painting, games and much more.
