Saskatoon Blades News Release

KOOTENAY ICE @ SASKATOON BLADES

Wednesday, October 7th - 7:00 PM

SaskTel Centre, Saskatoon, SK

OFF THE TOP: The Blades enter into tonight's matchup having earned points in every game so far this year (including pre season). Despite three straight overtime losses, the team sits tied for 6th in the Eastern Conference.

LAST SEASON: Saskatoon swept the season series against the Ice last year, winning all four match ups. The Blades and Ice had a very close series last season with a combined score of 19-12. These match ups also were not lacking in the entertainment department; Saskatoon came away with a 5-4 OT win in Kootenay in February after the Ice scored three unanswered to tie it. In January, the Blades scored three 3rd period goals including one by Wyatt Sloboshan with 11 seconds left in the game to give Saskatoon the win.

AHEAD OF THE PACE: The Blades are miles ahead of last season's pace for points. After four games this year, the Blades have 5 points, after four games last season, the Blades were stuck at 0. It would take Saskatoon 8 games to earn their first win and points of the year.

HE-(BIG)MAN: Cameron Hebig continues his torrid pace to start the year. He is on a four game point streak and after adding a goal and two assists on Sunday, Hebig is up to nine points on the year, tied for 8th in league scoring. He also currently has the 2nd highest PPG at 2.25. Hebig sits behind only Jayce Hawryluk of the Brandon Wheat Kings in that category.

NIKKY HIGHLIGHT: Nik Amundrud gets the start between the pipes for the Blades. Amundrud was know for making tremendous athletic saves last season, á la Tim Thomas. He makes his first home start of the new season and is looking to compete for the starting job with Brock Hamm who has had the majority of the starts thus far.

TRANSACTIONS/INJURIES: Anthony Bishop remains out with a hand injury. The Blades recently acquired goaltender Jake Morrissey from the Tri-City Americans for a 6th round pick in 2018. Saskatoon also sent forward Garrett Armour to the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for a conditional pick in 2017
