Sarnia Sting News Release

Sting Overview

The Sarnia Sting earned 4 of a possible 6 points on the road last weekend, knocking off the CHL's 3rd ranked team, Barrie, in the process. The Sting dropped a 5-4 decision to the North Bay Battalion on Friday night before rebounding with a 5-2 victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday to close out the Northern swing on a strong note.

Last week featured a number of milestones for the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club. On Thursday night, goaltender Justin Fazio recorded his first career OHL shutout, while rookie Sasha Chmelevski recorded his first career OHL goal as a member of the Sting. On Friday night in North Bay, Hayden Hodgson registered his 50th career point as a member of the Sting. And on Sunday, sophomore forward, Troy Lajeunesse picked up his first career hat-trick in front of a number of friends and family in Sudbury.

The Sting will get a shot in the arm this weekend as 6th overall pick, Pavel Zacha returns to the lineup for the Sting. After a strong training camp with the Devils, he was returned to the club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sting are slated for their first 3-in-3 of the season this weekend as the play host to Hamilton and Sudbury on Friday and Sunday with a trip to Flint on Saturday breaking up the two home contests.

Friday, October 9, 2015 - Hamilton Bulldogs (2-2-0-0) @ Sarnia Sting (3-2-0-0)

Puck Drop: 7:05 p.m.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-1 weekend, beating the Soo Greyhounds in overtime on Sunday to improve to 2-2-0-0 on the season. Friday's matchup will be the first time in history that the Bulldogs and the Sting have squared off.

Players to watch

Stephen Harper: Harper leads the way for the Bulldogs, scoring 3 times and adding 4 helpers (7pts.) through his first four games with the club. The overage centreman will be a big part of the Hamilton team's success this season.

Matthew Strome: Selected 8th overall in last year's OHL Priority selection, Strome has registered 1G & 1A in four games played with the Bulldogs. Much like his brothers Ryan and Dylan, Matthew will use his large frame to get pucks to the net and create scoring chances.

Sunday, October 11, 2015 - Sudbury Wolves (1-3-0-0) @ Sarnia Sting (3-2-0-0)

Puck Drop: 2:05 p.m.

The Sarnia Sting ousted the Wolves last Sunday in Sudbury, and this Sunday the Wolves will be looking to return the favor. With their only win of the season coming against Mississauga two weekends ago, the young squad from Sudbury will be hungry for a win this weekend.
