Toronto Marlies Announce Captains

October 6, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies announced today that defenceman Andrew Campbell has been named the seventh captain in club history. Joining the team in the offseason Campbell, 27, finished last season as a member of the Arizona Coytoes, playing the final 33 games of the NHL season on the Coyotes blueline. A veteran of 454 AHL games, Andrew has served as captain once before as a member of the Manchester Monarchs for the 2013-14 season. Campbell succeeds Troy Bodie who served as captain last season for the organization and retired this past offseason. Off the ice Campbell has been recognized for his work in the community; he was named IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for the Manchester Monarchs for three consecutive seasons from 2011-2014.

"It is a huge honour, just being a part of this organization is special. I grew up a Maple Leafs fan my whole life; my family are Maple Leafs fans, to be a part of that group is pretty special. It's a first-class organization to be a part of not only on the ice but off the ice. I think it's important to be myself, bring my work habits to the rink every day and just be there for the guys". Campbell's first game as captain will be this Friday when the Marlies welcome the Manitoba Moose at 7:00 p.m. to Ricoh Coliseum.
