Olkinuora, Gagnon, and DeSalvo Joining Oilers from AHL Camps

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, announced on Monday three additions to the team's training camp roster. Goaltender Jussi Olkinuora has been re-assigned to Tulsa from Manitoba while forward Mathieu Gagnon was released by the Moose and forward Dan DeSalvo was released by the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
Olkinuora, a 24-year old native of Helsinki, Finland, played parts of the last two seasons for the Ontario Reign under the guidance of new Oilers' Head Coach, Jason Christie. In the 2014-15 campaign, Olkinuora appeared in 43 regular season games for the Reign and posted an outstanding 27-9-6 record with a 2.41 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. During Ontario's run to the Western Conference Finals in the 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs, Olkinuora played in 12 games and registered a 2.31 goals against average, fifth best among all playoff netminders. Over the last three seasons, Olkinuora, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, has appeared in 15 games in the American Hockey League with the St. John's IceCaps.
Gagnon, 6-foot-2, 215-pounds, is on his way to Tulsa after appearing in 20 contests last season with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. The hard-nosed winger played seven games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL in 2013-14 and spent the majority of that season suiting up for the Stockton Thunder (ECHL). In 43 outings for Stockton, the 22-year old Gagnon recorded 136 penalty minutes, the second-highest total on the team. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Gagnon started his pro career in 2012-13 with the Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL).
DeSalvo, 23, is beginning his pro career after four successful seasons at Division-I Bowling Green State University. As a freshman in 2011-12, DeSalvo led the Falcons with 14 goals and led the squad with four game-winning goals. The Rolling Meadows, Illinois native posted a team-high 20 assists as a sophomore and topped his own mark by dishing out 25 assists as a junior. With 32 points in 2013-14, DeSalvo was named Bowling Green's Most Valuable Player. He capped off his collegiate career with a 20-point senior season and was awarded the BGSU Athletic Department's Medal of Honor for possessing the qualities deemed most important of Bowling Green student-athletes.
Oilers' training camp continues Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Oilers Ice Center (6413 S. Mingo Rd.). All practices are free and open to the public.
