He's guarded Chris Paul, received tips from Kyle Lowry, and played with LeBron James; and soon Malcolm Grant will be on P.E.I. for the Island Storm training camp.

The 6-foot-1 point guard from Brooklyn, N.Y. has been signed by the Storm for the upcoming season and will be a part of the team's training camp in early December.

"Since seeing him (Grant) for the first time back in 2013, he has been a guy on my radar, someone I believed could be very, very good in our league if put in the right system and situation," said Salerno.

Grant, who has had two quick stints in the NBL, is entering his fourth year of professional basketball after one colligate season at Villanova and four years at the University of Miami. In his third season at Miami he averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 assists, and shot above 40 per cent from three-point range. He was selected third-team All-ACC in 2011.

"I've got a lot of experience under my belt that I can use to help some of the younger guys," said Grant.

His resume includes stops in Cyprus, Australia, and Sweden.

"He has played in two of the top NCAA conferences in the United Staes in the Big East and ACC. I think he will add some quickness in our backcourt as well as scoring," said Salerno.

As a member of the 2013-14 Halifax Rainmen squad, Grant averaged better than 13 points per game but only spent seven games with the club before signing to play in overseas.

In February of this year the Mississauga Power picked up Grant for the remainder of its season. In 10 games with the club he averaged 12.2 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds with a remarkable 96.7 per cent free throw average.

"This is my first opportunity to start a season in the league," he said.

"Anybody that knows me says I'm a gym rat, I've been working all summer and I'm ready to get going this season."

Being in Miami has its perks, and Grant took full advantage of the hot competition while living in South Beach. While a member of the University of Miami Hurricanes, he often had the opportunity to scrimmage with members of the Miami Heat.

While playing at Villanova in Philadelphia, Grant met Lowry and has continued to keep in touch with the Toronto Raptors star guard.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Grant said he's ready to make an impact.

"I've been talking with coach all summer, he really believes in me. I'm excited to put my skills on display for the Storm."
