Urbandale, IA - The Omaha Lancers broke out offensively on Saturday night scoring six times while goaltender Kris Oldham denied 33 of 34 shots for his first victory of the year in a 6-1 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers in front of 1,996 fans at Buccaneer Arena.

Johan Steen scored his first USHL goal just 2:43 into the opening period to give the Lancers their first lead of the weekend. After taking a pass just inside the blue line, Steen skated to the center of the point and let a low shot go through traffic that sailed by Des Moines' goaltender Jan Ruzicka's leg pad to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Assists on Steen's first of the year were later credited to John Wojciechowski and JC MacLean.

A secondary chance helped the Lancers take a two-goal lead at the 13:33 mark of the first frame. Austin Alger took the puck across the slot in the offensive zone and sent a puck on net that was originally blocked. Alger picked up the loose puck and lifted the puck with his back hand for his second goal of the season and a 2-0 Lancers' lead over Des Moines.

Hank Crone snuck around the Buccaneer defense at the far blue line and received a long pass from the Lancers' defensive zone. Crone went in one-on-one with goaltender Jan Ruzicka and deked backhand to forehand firing the shot in for his first goal of the season and a 3-0 lead for the Omaha Lancers. Assists on Crone's tally were given to Johan Steen and Nathan Krusko. The assist was Steen's second point of the night.

In the third period the Lancers added three more goals to their total including their first power play goal of the season. Jacob Bryson took the puck at the right point and let a rocket go that went over the left shoulder of Jan Ruzicka, off the cross bar, and over the goal line for the 4-0 lead on Bryson's first of the year at 7:29 of the third period.

After Georgy Gorodetsky scored for Des Moines on a wrist shot, the Lancers responded with two more goals. Michael Montambault got in on the scoring with a one-timer inside the left wing circle that went through the legs of Ruzicka. JC MacLean picked up the only assist on Montambault's first of his USHL career. The assist was MacLean's second of the evening.

Omaha's final goal came off of a great save by Kris Oldham. The Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick made a huge left leg pad save that started a rush back the other way. Matt Meier cut around the defense and scored his first of the season to give the Lancers a 6-1 lead late in regulation. The goal came with 23 seconds remaining and was assisted by Jacob Bryson and Austin Alger.

The 6-1 score held up as the final and Kris Oldham stopped 33 of 34 shots he faced for his first win of the season.

The Omaha Lancers return to Ralston Arena for the first time in the regular season, Friday night against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Fans can come to the 30th Anniversary Home Opener Tailgate Party outside of Ralston Arena from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 people into the arena receive a FREE rally towel!
