Hrivik, Zamorsky Lead Wolf Pack to 3-1 Preseason Victory

Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
Allentown, PA, October 3, 2015 - Marek Hrivik had a goal and two assists, and Petr Zamorsky added a goal and an assist, to power the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 3-1 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Saturday night in AHL preseason action at the PPL Center.
Richard Nejezchleb chipped in two assists to the win, and Jeff Malcolm stopped 26 out of 27 shots in the Hartford net. Taylor Leier scored the only Phantom goal.
"Our guys showed some pretty good, skilled plays," Wolf Pack coach Ken Gernander said. "I thought their goalie made a couple of bell-ringer saves, we had some good chances. They countered a few times, it got a little bit scrambly in our end, but we'll work that out."
The first period was scoreless, with the Wolf Pack holding a 9-8 shots advantage.
Malcolm made a fine sprawling save on Pavel Padakin at the 18:11 mark, after Danick Martel had fired a shot off the post behind Malcolm earlier in the frame. Phantom netminder Anthony Stolarz (26 saves) was tested hard in the dying seconds of the period when Adam Tambellini one-timed a quick shot from the right side of the slot, off of a slick pass from Alex Krushelnyski, but Stolarz slid to his left to keep the Wolf Pack off the board.
The Phantoms finally broke the scoreless deadlock with 7:42 remaining in the second period, with five seconds left on an interference minor against Hartford's Tommy Hughes. Shayne Gostisbehere snapped a wrist shot from the center point and Leier, parked right in front of Malcolm's crease, deflected it in.
The Wolf Pack would get the next three, though, starting with a response by their man-advantage unit at 16:15, with Kevin Sundher off for hooking. Zamorsky drove a shot past Stolarz from just above the left faceoff dot, off of a pass from Nejezchleb.
Hartford would dominate the third period, outshooting Lehigh Valley 11-3 and scoring twice.
The Pack took its first lead of the game on another power play only 44 seconds into the third, with just five seconds left on a Robert Hagg holding-the-stick penalty that carried over from the second.
Zamorsky was involved again, as his shot from the center point rang off the goal post behind Stolarz. Calle Andersson dove from Stolarz' right to poke the carom into the net.
The Pack made it a two-goal lead at 8:02, on a great three-way passing play among linemates Hrivik, Nejezchleb and Chris McCarthy. It was Hrivik with the backhanded finish, after McCarthy set him up on the doorstep.
The Wolf Pack wrap up their preseason slate Sunday with their only home exhibition date, a 3:00 PM game vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, CT. A $5 per person admission charge will benefit Whalers Youth Hockey.
The Wolf Pack open their 19th regular season of AHL play at the XL Center Saturday, October 10, hosting the St. John's IceCaps in a 7:00 PM game. Tickets for opening night, and all 2015-16 Wolf Pack home games, are on sale now at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.
