Take the good with the bad.
The Guelph Storm will have to do that following a third straight loss to start off the 2015-16 season, falling 8-4 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday night.
In the loss, the silver lining comes in a period won and four goals tallied to break the scoreless drought. James McEwan, who would score two on the night, opened the season's scoring for the Storm, while Vladislav Barulin and Timo Haussener both recorded their first OHL points on the night.
Bradley van Schubert appeared in his first game of the season as well, with Justin Nichols being relieved after allowing three goals on 16 shots through the first 12:11 of the game.
Van Schubert would face an additional 35 shots, allowing five goals through 47:48 of play.
The Greyhounds' Joseph Raaymakers turned away 23 of 27 shots on the night.
Following a tough first period that saw the Storm down 3-0 heading into the first intermission, McEwan would start things off, breaking in with a stride full of speed to make no mistake on the backhand. The goal came moments after Barulin was awarded a penalty shot, but would fire it just wide on a backhand of his own.
Though denied at first, Barulin pocketed his first OHL goal just over a minute later at the 8:12 mark of the middle frame to cut the Soo's lead down to 3-2.
The Greyhounds, however, would respond shortly afterwards, with Bobby MacIntyre scoring his first of the season at the 9:26 mark of the period.
The Storm would go on to win the period, a definite positive to take from this 60-minute tilt, as Luke Burghardt scored his first on the power play, getting help from Givani Smith and defenceman Kyle Rhodes.
The Soo would ensure momentum was on their side heading into the third period, though, scoring the final goal of the period to make it 5-3 with 20 remaining in the game.
The Greyhounds would pick things up where they left off, scoring three goals to make it a run-away contest less than four minutes into the final frame.
McEwan would close out the 12-goal scoring affair, recording a shorthanded marker with just four seconds remaining in the game.
With that, the Greyhounds leave Guelph with an 8-4 final.
The Storm are right back into action on Saturday night when they visit the Saginaw Spirit for a 7:05 puck drop.
