 Bowie Baysox

Baysox Trio Honored by Orioles

October 1, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Bowie Baysox News Release

Baysox first baseman Trey Mancini, right-handed reliever Mychal Givens and outfielder Glynn Davis will be honored at Camden Yards Friday, October 2nd. Mancini was named the Brooks Robinson Orioles Minor League Player of the Year, Givens and former Baysox reliever Oliver Drake were co-recipients of the Jim Palmer Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award and Davis received the Elrod Hendricks Minor League Community Service Award.

The trio of Baysox will be recognized during the Orioles 2015 player development and scouting awards ceremony.

Despite starting the season with Advanced-A Frederick and not joining the Baysox until early June, Mancini was such a force in the Eastern League that he was able to win the batting title despite not recording enough plate appearances to immediately qualify. He finished the year batting .359 with 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 84 games. After taking an 0-for-29 to reach 384 plate appearances for the season, his adjusted batting average of .330 still beat out Altoona's Adam Frazier for the title.

The Orioles eighth round pick in the 2013 draft out of Notre Dame, Mancini hit a combined .341 with 43 doubles, 21 home runs and 89 RBI in 136 games between Frederick and Bowie. The Florida native was named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month three times (May, June and August), he was named the Carolina League Player of the Month in May and was named to the Baseball America Minor League All-Star Second Team.

Givens enjoyed a breakout 2015 season as a reliever in the Orioles organization. Originally drafted by the Orioles in the second round of the 2009 draft as a shortstop, Givens was converted to a pitcher before the 2013 season. He appeared in 35 games for the Baysox, going 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA and 15 saves while striking out 79 in 57.1 innings.

His work during the first half of the season in Bowie was so impressive that he was promoted directly to Baltimore to make his Major League debut June 24 against Boston. The Florida native has appeared in 19 games for the Orioles and is 2-0 with a 2.02 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. Givens was rated as the Best Reliever in the Eastern League by Baseball America and named to the Baseball America Minor League All-Star Team. He also made the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star Game and led all Eastern League relievers with a 12.40 SO/9IP ratio (79SO/57.1IP).

Davis, who is a Pasadena, Md., native and Chesapeake High School graduate, was signed by the Orioles as a non-drafted free agent in 2010 after playing one season at the Community College of Baltimore County - Catonsville. The outfielder spent the entire 2015 season with the Baysox and displayed outstanding dedication to his community before and during the season. He made numerous appearances in the area, including a visit to Anne Arundel Medical Center to meet with a sick child on her birthday.
