Saskatchewan Rush Claim Three Awards at 2015 Ceremony

Saskatchewan Rush News Release

SASKATCHEWAN - Owner/Governor Bruce Urban was one of three members of the Saskatchewan Rush to claim honours at the National Lacrosse League's 2015 Season Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night.

Urban was named the NLL's Executive of the Year, while Rush defenceman Kyle Rubisch received his fourth consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award, and Rush forward Ben McIntosh claiming the Rookie of the Year.

It was an especially satisfying 2015 season for Bruce Urban as the Rush capped their 10th anniversary in the NLL in fine style by capturing the Champion's Cup league title. Urban was instrumental in all facets of the Rush's season particularly in marketing.

Urban's most passionate initiative this past season was the creation of Superhero jersey that were auctioned off to fans with the money raised going to support Rush goalie Aaron Bold and his life partner Michelle during her battle with cancer.

Without a doubt, Kyle Rubisch remains the NLL's best defenceman as he locked up his fourth straight award while anchoring the league's best defensive group. Rubisch's leadership was on brilliant display all season, and he finished second in the NLL with 36 forced turnovers. Come playoff time, Rubisch stood out even more as he led the post-season with eight forced turnovers and continued to shut down many of the league's most elite offensive stars.

For the second straight season, Rubisch claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award by edging out teammate and Rush captain Chris Corbeil in voting.

Rubisch and Rush teammate Mark Matthews, who finished second in league scoring was nominated for the Most Valuable Player award, but couldn't claim it. Matthews was named to the NLL First All-Pro Team. The Rush's Aaron Bold, nominated for the Goaltender of the Year award, was named to the NLL Second All-Pro Team.

The Rush made Ben McIntosh the first overall pick in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft and he lived up to advance billing in a big way. Selected out of Drexel University as an All-American, McIntosh led all NLL rookies and finished 14th in league scoring during the regular season with 86 points. Fittingly, McIntosh was also named to the NLL All-Rookie Team.

McIntosh is the second player in Rush history to win the Rookie of the Year award, following Matthews - another first overall pick - who captured the honour in 2013.

The Rush's Derek Keenan was a runner-up for the Coach of the Year award, and forward Jarrett Davis was nominated for the Teammate of the Year award.
