Stingrays Agree to Terms with Forward David Pacan

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), have agreed to terms with forward David Pacan, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

The Stingrays acquired Pacan's ECHL rights last week in a trade with Missouri that moved the ECHL rights of defenseman Lee Moffie to the Mavericks.

"When I heard of the trade, I was really excited because I have only heard good things about the Stingrays," said Pacan. "I talked to several of my former coaches and they spoke highly of the team and Coach Carbery. It's a great organization, and as you could tell from last year's results, they've had a great deal of success."

Pacan, 24, has played three seasons in the ECHL, skating with the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Kalamazoo Wings. He enjoyed a strong first pro season with the Cyclones, posting 52 points in 57 games, and was named to the 2012-2013 ECHL All-Rookie Team. After moving to Kalamazoo in 2013-2014, Pacan returned to Cincinnati last season. With the Cyclones in 2014-2015, Pacan scored 40 points (11 goals, 29 assists) in 62 games. He also appeared in eight games for the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL), scoring one goal.

The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Pacan was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Draft. He played one year at the University of Vermont before joining the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before turning pro. Missouri acquired his rights from Cincinnati earlier this summer to complete a previous trade.

"Year by year, guys get more mature," said Pacan. "I'm a smarter player, on and off the ice, than I was when I started my pro career. Obviously, you look to translate that into success with a strong effort and performance in your game. With my style, I'd consider myself a power forward as I like to use my size to my advantage while playing both ends of the ice."

Pacan and the Stingrays will open Training Camp next week.
