Altherr Received Gold Glove Honors

(Allentown, PA) - Current Phillies outfielder and former IronPig Aaron Altherr has captured a 2015 Rawlings Gold Glove Award, as announced by Minor League Baseball today.

During the minor league season, Altherr was perfect in 107 games in the field, recording 279 chances and eight assists without committing an error.

The 24-year-old played in 51 games for Lehigh Valley this season, beginning after a promotion from Reading (AA) on June 23 until being recalled by Philadelphia on Aug. 18. During his stint in the International League, Altherr did not commit an error while recording a pair of outfield assists splitting time between centerfield (35 games), right field (nine games) and left field (five games).

Offensively, the Phillies ninth round pick in 2009 out of Agua Fria (Ariz.) High School was very impressive in his time with the IronPigs - batting .294 with eight home runs, 38 runs batted in and eight stolen bases. In fact, during his time in Triple-A, he ranked tied for second in the IL in runs scored (36) and fourth in RBI (33) while pacing the IronPigs in HR (8) during the span.

Altherr was born in Landstuhl, Germany, to a father who was professional German soccer player and a mother who was a member of United States Armed Forces.

The Phillies system featured one additionally gold glover in Lakewood left fielder Cord Sandberg, who recorded a .983 fielding percentage in 120 games for Lakewood (A). The 20-year-old had 232 chances and recorded 13 assists. Sandberg was a third round pick of the Phillies in the 2013 draft out of Manatee (FL) High School.
