 Saskatoon Blades

Comeback Comes Short

September 27, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

PRINCE ALBERT, SK - Revenge truly is, a dish best served cold.

That's exactly what the Raiders were looking for after last nights performance at Sasktel Centre and they showed early on why we grow to despize the green and gold.

Last season Nik Amundrud was known for making big saves and he showed flashes of it tonight. Especially in the first where the Raiders had several shorthanded break aways but Amundrud was up to the task shutting the door to keep the game scoreless.

The Blades struggled to keep the puck out of their zone and it cost them with Jordan Tkatch scoring off a rebound giving the Raiders the lead early on.

Glover and Lees would capitalize in the second extending the lead to three for the Raiders.

"After last nights game you knew they were going to come out harder and they certainly played a lot better and this is a tough place to get a win in and we'll take the one point that we got out of it and go from here." says Assistant Coach Dean Brockman on the much different Prince Albert Team in tonights game.

However, Sloboshan answers right back with two goals to bring them just within one.

"The puck just rolled my way today. I was doing a lot of the same thing as last game with pucks maybe not bouncing my way but today they went my way and I was lucky to get a couple but too bad it wasn't enough to get the win." added Sloboshan.

Ryan Graham would bust down the wing scoring a beauty to tie the game at three all.

Josh Paterson would record his first WHL goal on a feed from Braid to give the Blades the first lead of the game.

"It was a great cycle by Braider (Chasetan Braid) and great on the forecheck to cycle the puck and made a nice pass to Lukus (MacKenzie) who made a nice behind the back sneak pass and just threw it on net hoped for the best and it went in." Josh Paterson on how he scored his first WHL goal.

Tonight's game was all about the special teams. The Raiders would capitalize on the power play to tie it up and use overtime to net the game winner. The Raiders went three for five with the man advantage. While Saskatoon went two for nine with several big chances to put the game away throughout the night. Including another tying marker by Hebig to send it to overtime in the third. "It's almost as every second shift there was special teams and you can't get too much chemistry going with your lines and its kind of tough but we got to capitalize way more on our power play. We had way too many tonight that we didn't capitalize on and they capitalized on theirs and it's tough for us." says Sloboshan on the special teams battle throughout tonight's game.

Though they come out of this game with one point, the mentality of not quitting has still been a major factor for the team. As they have come back on two separate occasions in the pre-season and here tonight against the Raiders.

"I think they're just a little bit more confident I think winning the first game and when your down by three you're not out of it and if you can preach that to your guys that we needed to get one before the period and Wyatt took it upon himself to get two. That really helped out and maybe if there was a difference in the game as if we'd capitalize on our power play it wasn't good tonight and it will be better down the road." says Dean Brockman on his teams effort throughout the game.

The team has time off as they get ready to host the Medicine Hat Tigers next Friday night at Sasktel Centre.
