Kearney, NE - Nathan Krusko scored the only goal for the Omaha Lancers in the season-opener on Friday night but the Tri-City Storm came away with a 5-1 victory backed by three points each from Mattias Goransson and John Marino in front of 2,692 inside the Viaero Event Center.

Tri-City took the lead off the stick of Carson Meyer at 3:48 of the opening period. As the Storm worked the puck to the blue line Meyer moved quickly to the hash marks in front of Lancers' goaltender Kris Oldham. Tory Dello let a shot go from the left point that deflected off the stick of Meyer and into the net for his first of the year and a 1-0 Storm lead. The secondary assist was credited with Alex Limoges.

The next two goals came from the right side of the offensive zone for the Storm to take a 3-0 lead. Sam Sternschein received a drop pass just inside the offensive zone blue line. After taking the pass, Sternschein let a high shot go from inside the right wing circle that sailed over the shoulder of Kris Oldham for a 2-0 advantage for Tri-City at the 8:02 mark of the 2nd period. Assists on Sternschein's goal were credited to John Marino and Mattias Goransson for their first points of the season.

Late in the second period it was Austen Long's turn from the right side of the ice and he put the Storm ahead 3-0. After taking a pass, Long sped down the right side of the ice and let a high wrist shot go that went off the inside cross bar for the three-goal lead with just 3:52 remaining in the second period. Alex Limoges and John Marino picked up the assists on the goal. It was Marino's second assist of the game.

To start the second period, Kris Oldham was replaced by Zackarias Skog in net but it was Nico Sturm who put the Storm up 4-0 in the middle frame. Mattias Goransson sent a pass to Sturm in the neutral zone to spring him in on a one-on-one with defenders. After going by the defense, the Germany native sent a backhand shot through the legs of Skog at 12:31 of the period. Assists were given to Goransson, his third helper of the night, and goaltender Matthew Greenfield.

Jake Wahlin scored with only 1:44 left in the second period. After a remarkable original save by Zackarias Skog, the rebound landed in front of him and was picked up by Wahlin and sent over the diving Skog to give the Storm a 5-0 lead heading into the final period of action. Goransson recorded his third assist of the night on the goal with the other assist going John Marino, also his third of the night.

Omaha responded early in the third period to eventually break up the shutout bid by Matthew Greenfield. Nathan Krusko picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and had to beat the defender to the net. Krusko took the shot, which was stopped by Greenfield, however, the Harvard University commit gathered his own rebound and backhanded the puck by the netminder to get the Lancers on the board at 4:55 of the final period, unassisted.

Kris Oldham stopped eight shots before being replaced in the second period by Skog, who denied 19 of 21 shots he faced.
