Panthers Assign Six More to Pirates

Portland, ME - The Florida Panthers, NHL affiliate of the Portland Pirates, today announced the reassignment of six players from the Panthers to the Pirates.

Among those reassigned were forwards Logan Shaw, Corban Knight, and Kyle Rau, defensemen Jonathan Racine and Josh Brown, and goalie Sam Brittain.

Shaw, the 6-foot-3, 202 pound native of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia is entering his third pro season. Shaw played 69 games for the San Antonio Rampage in 2014-15, scoring 13 goals to go with 12 assists for 25 points. He also played in two playoff games last season for the Rampage.

Drafted in the Third Round (76th Overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by Florida, Shaw played five seasons with the QMJHL's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Quebec Remparts before he began his pro career.

Knight, a 6-foot-2, 195 pound center from Oliver, British Columbia scored 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 58 total AHL games last season. The 24 year-old began the season with the AHL's Adirondack Flames, playing 22 games there before he was traded to the Panthers organization. He also played in two games with the Calgary Flames in the NHL last season. After the trade, Knight played 36 games with San Antonio. He also scored a goal in three Calder Cup Playoff games for the Rampage.

Knight began his pro career in 2013-14, playing 70 AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat, where he scored 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points. He made his NHL debut that season, playing in seven games with Calgary and scoring the only goal of his NHL career so far on March 12, 2014 against the Anaheim Ducks.

Originally drafted by Florida in the Fifth Round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Knight played four seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of North Dakota.

Rau, the 5-foot-8, 173 pound center from Hoffman Estates, Illinois began his pro career by playing seven games for the AHL's San Antonio Rampage last season. In those seven games, the 22 year-old notched two goals and an assist for three points.

Selected in the Third Round (91st Overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers, Rau turned pro after a decorated four-year NCAA Division I Men's Hockey career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. He was named the Team Captain in both his junior and senior seasons and was named a Second Team All-American in 2013-14. Rau represented Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship and also won the coveted Mr. Hockey Award, given to the best boys' high school hockey player in the State of Minnesota, in 2010.

Racine, a 6-foot-2, 194 pound defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, played 70 games last season for the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. He totaled seven assists and seven points, to go along with 149 penalty minutes. The third-year pro also dished out an assist in three Calder Cup Playoff games for San Antonio last season.

Drafted in the Third Round (87th Overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the 22 year-old played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Shawinigan Cataractes and Moncton Wildcats. Racine was a member of Shawinigan's 2012 Memorial Cup Championship team. He has played one game in the NHL for Florida during the 2013-14 season.

Brown, a 6-foot-4, 215 pound defenseman from London, Ontario, begins his pro career this season. Last season, he captained the OHL's Oshawa Generals to both the OHL's Robertson Cup and the CHL's Memorial Cup.

The 20 year-old skated in 60 regular season games, scoring four goals to go with 17 assists for 21 points. During the OHL Playoffs, Brown scored two goals and two assists for four points in 21 games. He registered an assist in four games at the Memorial Cup tournament.

Selected in the Sixth Round (152nd Overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers, Brown spent four seasons with Oshawa before turning pro.

Brittain, a 6-foot-3, 229 pound goalie from Calgary, Alberta, is embarking on his second pro season. He spent most of his time last season with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, where he played 27 games, posting a record of 14-11-1, a 2.71 GAA, a 0.895 save percentage, and four shutouts. The 23 year-old also played in seven AHL games with the San Antonio Rampage last season. He finished with a 4-2-1 record, a 1.76 GAA, a 0.943 save percentage, and one shutout.

Selected in the Fourth Round (92nd Overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers, Brattain played four seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of Denver Pioneers before turning pro. He was named the NCHC Goalie of the Year in 2013-14 and was a nominee for the Mike Richter Award, given to the top college goalie in the country. He was also named a First Team All-American that season.

In addition, the Panthers assigned forward Jayce Hawryluk to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. Florida also placed goalie Mike McKenna, forwards Rob Flick, John McFarland, Greg McKegg, and Brett Olson, as well as defensemen Sena Acolatse, Cameron Gaunce, and Brent Regner on NHL waivers. If all eight players clear, they can be assigned to Portland as early as tomorrow.

Players report to Portland Pirates Training Camp this Sunday. The first on-ice session will be held at the OA Sports Center in Saco on Tuesday, September 29. The Portland Pirates full training camp roster will be released on Sunday.
