Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, S.C. - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team has acquired forward Ryan Rashid from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for future considerations.

"Ryan will strengthen our offense in a number of ways," head coach Brian Gratz said. "He's a play-maker who shows a lot of passion in his game. His combination of size and speed is something that will positively impact our team and can make him a difference maker on the ice."

Rashid, 25, comes to the Swamp Rabbits following a successful rookie campaign with Elmira last season. In 65 games, he led the Jackals with 25 assists and finished second on the club with 41 points. He added 16 goals, 51 penalty minutes and a +7 rating during that span. In addition, the second-year forward debuted with Elmira in 2013-14 and notched four points (2g, 2a) in just six contests.

Prior to turning pro, Rashid played four seasons at Niagara University from 2010-14, producing 88 points (38g, 50a) in 143 collegiate games. He helped lead the Purple Eagles to the American Hockey Association (AHA) regular season championship in 2012-13 and was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2010-11 after amassing a career-best 13 goals and 26 points in 34 games.

Before attending Niagara, the 6'2, 194-pounder played junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Rashid helped St. Louis capture the Robertson Cup as the NAHL champion in 2008-09.

Ticket plans for the inaugural season of the Swamp Rabbits' era are available now and start as low as $81! Call an Account Executive today at 864-674-PUCK to secure your seats! The Swamp Rabbits open the home portion of the 2015-16 season on Friday, October 23 with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against the South Carolina Stingrays.
