Saskatoon Blades News Release

SASKATOON - The Saskatoon Blades have announced their team captains for the 2015-16 season.

Nick Zajac has been named as the 56th captain in Blades franchise history.

Making his WHL debut in 2011, Zajac is currently in his fifth full season, appearing in 250 regular-season games - all with the Blades. The 20-year-old product of Headingley, MB, has recorded a combined 35 goals and 65 assists in his career.

Zajac was originally drafted by the Blades in the eighth round - 174th overall - in 2010.

"Nick embodies all the qualities that we look for in Blade Factor. His style of play on the ice is what we feel will be our identity this season," Head Coach and General Manager Bob Woods said. "The players voted on the captains and Nick was a consensus decision."

The Blades also announced that the alternate captaincy will be shared between Mitch Wheaton, Ryan Graham, Connor Gay, Josh Uhrich, Brycen Martin, and Cameron Hebig. Wheaton, Graham, and Gay will don the letters exclusively at home, while Uhrich, Martin, and Hebig will sport the A's on the road.

"It's great to have such a large group of leaders in this room and they're going to do a great job on the ice and in the community." Woods said.
