Dylan Crider Selected as Winner of New York-Penn League Scholarship

NORWICH, CT- The Connecticut Tigers are proud to announce that Baltic, Connecticut native Dylan Crider has been selected as one of three winners of the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation Scholarship's grand prize. This is the second consecutive season the Connecticut Tigers' representative has been selected for the top prize. The Tigers wish to congratulate Dylan on the accomplishment.

Dylan is a 2015 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and recently began his freshman year at Villanova University. He has been active in the community, volunteering his time as a committee co-chair and team captain for Relay for Life of Eastern CT and has served various leadership positions including treasurer of his class and captain of the swim team at NFA. Dylan has also be recognized for his leadership and character with the Howard and Elsie Brown Award for service to the Norwich Free Academy and the Dutton Family Memorial Award for strength of scholarship, moral character, and athletic ability.

Each of the league's 14 member clubs annually select the scholarship application from their local community they feel most deserving. These 14 applications are then entered into the second round of judging, where there is one winner picked amongst each of the league's three divisions: the Stedler, McNamara, and Pinckney to win the grand prize. These three winners receive a $2,500 scholarship to be applied towards any 2 or 4 year college or university, vocational or technical education institution or program. Awards are judged on several criteria, including academic performance, examples of leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, and the impact the applicant's NYPL franchise has had on his/her life.

The New York-Penn League is the oldest continuously-operated Class-A league in Minor League Baseball. The league has 14 Major League Baseball-affiliated member clubs located in eight states- Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and West Virginia. The New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) created to give back to the communities where New York-Penn League member clubs operate.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2016 season tickets and team merchandise are now on sale!
