Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - The final numbers are in and it's official: The Fourth Annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament was a record breaker! The Prince George Cougars in conjunction with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation announced today that $102,061.16 was raised during the two day event that took place on July 17th and 18th, 2015 at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club. The annual event has now raised over $232,000 towards healthcare in the North since 2012.
"This event has become a summer staple for all involved, and year after year we continue to surpass even our own expectations!" said Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament Chairman, Gary Samis. "Once again the sponsors and people of Prince George and surrounding communities have risen to the challenge, and because of that generosity we are able to make huge annual contributions towards the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation."
This year, funds raised from the event will be put towards the purchase of a Medtronic Paceart Optima System and Blood Pressure Monitors for the cardiac lab, which will help with early detection and accurate diagnosis of heart-related conditions in patients of all ages. Also, because of the overwhelming generosity from tournament supporters, additional funds will be directed towards equipment to detect, diagnose, and monitor the treatment of cardiac patients. Spirit of the North is working alongside Northern Health and cardiac specialists to determine the best use of additional funds that have become available. The official cheque presentation for this year's event will take place on the ice prior to puck drop at the Prince George Cougars home opener on Friday, September 25th against the Everett Silvertips.
28 Prince George Cougars alumni members were on hand for the event, including: Dan Hamhuis, Eric Brewer, Blair Betts, Tyler Bouck, Nick Drazenovic, Ed Dempsey and Eric Hunter. The alumni/live auction from Friday, July 17th alone raised over $67,000.
The continued success of this event would also not be possible without the support of our alumni, tournament sponsors, volunteers, staff members and participants. Special thanks to the Northland Auto Group who served as the title sponsor and to the Prince George Golf and Curling Club for hosting the event for a fourth straight summer.
