Can-Am League Playoff Recap

September 19, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

New Jersey 7, Trois-Rivieres 5 (Series tied, 2-2)

The New Jersey Jackals plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 5-4 deficit and beat the Trois-Rivieres Aigles by the score of 7-5. The win by New Jersey forces a decisive game five tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:05 PM at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The Jackals would get on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey CF Dvontrey Richardson and 3B Jared Schlehuber led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice by C Tim Quinn, Richardson would score on an error by Trois-Rivieres 2B Jose Cuevas to make it 1-0 Jackals.

New Jersey increased their lead in the fourth to 3-0 on a two-run single by Quinn, scoring RF Leandro Castro and LF Matt Helms.

In the top of the fifth, the Aigles plated their first two runs of the contest on a RBI double from 3B Eric Grabe and a groundout from SS Pedro Lopez. The Jackals came right back in the bottom of the frame and increased their advantage to 4-2 on a Richardson RBI single.

Trois-Rivieres tied the game up at 4-4 in the top of the sixth on a fielder's choice from Cuevas and a DH Joel Carranza single. The Aigles would tack on a run in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead as RF Javier Herrera scored on CF Steve Brown's single. That lead, however, would be short lived as New Jersey rallied in the eighth.

Richardson led off the inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game up at 5-5. Later in the inning, with two out, SS Peter Mooney and 2B Anthony Gomez singled back-to-back. After another wild pitch moved them up a base, Grabe would make a costly error to bring home both Mooney and Gomez to give New Jersey the lead for good and the game four win.

The Jackals offense was led by Richardson as went 3-for-4 on the night with two runs scored and a RBI. New Jersey reliever Alex Powers notched the victory while Hector Nelo collected his fifth save of the postseason.
