Mississauga Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - A day after his brother William and the Toronto Maple Leafs kicked off training camp, Alexander Nylander made his debut in a similar blue and white uniform in the same arena. The Mississauga Steelheads continued their preseason action Friday night, hosting the Kitchener Rangers at the MasterCard Centre for their first of two home exhibition games. The Trout were 1-1 heading into tonight's match with a win and a loss against Guelph and Kitchener respectively.

Defenceman Sean Day opened the scoring in the first with a power play goal just past the midway point of the period. Nicolas Hague and Luke Kutkevicius drew the assists on the lone goal of the period. Shots were 13-7 after twenty in favour of Mississauga.

The Rangers came out strong in the second as David Miller evened things up with his first goal of the preseason from Adam Mascherin and Jacob Cascagnette. Nearing the midway point of the game, Nylander gave Mississauga a 2-1 lead. Newcomers Daniel Muzito-Bagenda and Ryan McLeod drew the assists on Nylander's first goal as a Steelhead. Kitchener would answer back late in the period as Miller netted his second goal of the night, sending the game into the second intermission tied at 2-2.

Gustaf Franzen gave Kitchener their first lead of the night at 11:12 of the third period. The Rangers then capitalized on the man-advantage as Dylan Di Perna made it a 4-2 game with less than five minutes to play.

At the end of regulation the teams played a 3-on-3 overtime period where Mascherin added another goal for the Rangers (which did not affect the final score).

The Steelheads will host the Guelph Storm on Sunday for their final exhibition game at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville at 2:00 pm. Tickets will be available on location prior to the game for only $5.00.
