Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Chiefs' forward Curtis Miske scored his fourth goal of the preseason and Dominic Zwerger added his third, but the Chiefs couldn't come up with enough to knock off the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick on Friday night, losing 3-2. Both teams return to Spokane Arena for a quick rematch on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Finnish import forward Juuso Valimaki opened the scoring for the Americans, his second of the preseason, at the 6:15 mark of the first period.
Miske answered off an assist from overage winger Riley Whittingham just over nine minutes later, at the 15:32 mark, to tie the game, 1-1. The goal marked Miske's team-leading fourth of the preseason.
Kimberley, B.C. native Jordan Roy gave the Americans the lead again with an unassisted goal just over halfway through the second period.
Parker AuCoin scored what would become the game-winner for the Ams at the 10:29 mark of the third period, off assists from Vladislav Lukin and Braden Purtill, pushing their lead to 3-1.
Spokane's Zwerger scored at the 12:02 mark but the Chiefs couldn't find any more offense as Tri-City held on for the 3-2 win.
Rookie Matt Berlin started in goal for Spokane and made 14 stops on 15 shots in just over 30 minutes of ice time. Tyson Verhelst substituted in for the remainder of the game, making 15 saves on 17 shots faced. Tri-City started Evan Sarthou, who made 17 saves on the night.
Both teams return to Spokane on Saturday to cap their preseason schedules with a rematch at Spokane Arena at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 via the Chiefs' Ticket Office.
