Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters won their second-straight game, posting a 10-4 victory over the Camden Riversharks behind a pair of big performances from Patrick and Rafael Palmeiro. The father/son tandem combined to go 4-for-9 with five RBI in the rout. Sugar Land improved its record to 67-70 on the year with the win.
Starting pitcher Josh Geer won his seventh game of the season to improve to 7-8. The former big-leaguer allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
The Skeeters drew first blood in the bottom of the first as Riversharks starter Jeff Singer struggled with his command in the early goings. Patrick Palmeiro and Rafael Palmeiro each drew one-out walks to put a pair aboard. Johan Limonta drove a two-out single back through the middle of the infield to score the younger Palmeiro and stake Sugar Land to a 1-0 advantage.
Camden extended the top of the second to claim a 2-1 lead on the Skeeters. Mat Gamel drew a walk on Josh Geer's full-count offering before Daniel Rockett lifted a two-run home run to left-center to claim the lead for the Riversharks.
Sugar Land blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth, pushing across seven runs in the frame. After a run had already come home on an error off the bat of Amadeo Zazueta, Patrick Palmeiro came to the plate with the bases-loaded. With his father in the on-deck circle, Patrick launched a grand slam to left to put the Skeeters up 6-2. Rafael followed with his first as a member of the Skeeters on a high-chopper up the middle. The 50-year old would eventually come home to score along with Chris Wallace following a second Riversharks error.
In the bottom of the fifth, Rafael Palmeiro recorded his first professional RBI in 10 years. Following a Patrick Palmeiro double to right that put a pair in scoring position, Rafael rifled a single into the left-center alley to expand the lead to 9-2. Johan Limonta picked up one of his three RBI with a base-knock into right to cap the scoring for the Skeeters.
Camden would chip away in the seventh and eighth, but the Skeeters large lead was too much to overcome, resulting in the 10-4 win.
