Late Home Run Lifts Lancaster over Long Island

Long Island Ducks News Release
(Lancaster, Penn., Sept. 17, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the second inning on a two-out RBI single through the left side by Anthony Vega off of Barnstormers starter Edwin Carl. The Barnstormers answered with three runs in the third against Ducks starter Darin Downs. A RBI double by Zach Collier and RBI singles from Lance Zawadzki and Anderson Feliz, both with two outs, did the damage.
Randy Ruiz pulled the Ducks back even at three in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to center. However, a solo homer to right in the bottom of the seventh by Kent Matthes put the 'Stormers back in front 4-3.
Carl (1-0) collected the win, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four. Nick Struck (5-4) suffered the loss, giving up a run on three hits in one inning of relief. Scott Patterson earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning. Downs did not factor into the decision, tossing six innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out five.
Dan Lyons led the Flock with three hits, while Ruiz added two RBI.
Long Island and Lancaster continue their four-game set on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Right-hander John Brownell takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Madison Boer. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks' flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. Streaming audio will also be available online.
The Ducks will return home to host Games One and Two of the best-of-five Liberty Division Championship Series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24. Game time for both contests is slated for 6:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at each game will receive "Drive to the Title" Rally Towels, courtesy of News 12. Prior to each game, the Ducks will be hosting a food drive in conjunction with Island Harvest Food Bank. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items by dropping them off in the collection bins located on the plaza outside the ballpark.
