With injuries plaguing the San Francisco Giants in the home stretch of the 2015 regular season, the club announced the purchase of the contracts of 2012 Volcanoes Mac Williamson and Trevor Brown on Wednesday.

When Williamson and Brown debut -- which manager Bruce Bochy says will happen this season -- the duo will be the 87th and 88th Volcanoes to play in the Major Leagues after the September 3 debut of 2011 Volcano Cody Hall.

Mac Williamson, a product of Wake Forest, joined Salem-Keizer in late July of 2012 and made his Volcanoes debut on July 24. Despite just 29 games with the Volcanoes, Williamson left no doubt of his potential to make an impact at the highest level. The third rounder smashed seven home runs, tied for third amongst all Short Season batters in the time period. Not only did Williamson flash the power, he hit a scorching .342 and slugged .596 during his time in Keizer, a mark which ranked in the top 40 among all Minor Leaguers. He notched a hit in 23 of his 29 games with the Volcanoes.

Unlike Williamson who got his professional career started in a short-lived Arizona League stint, Trevor Brown joined the Volcanoes straight out of college. The 10th rounder out of UCLA impressed behind the plate, throwing out 33% of potential base-stealers. Although Brown batted just .221 in 33 games with the Volcanoes, he showed signs of acclimating to professional baseball, going 10-for-27 (.370) in the final week of the Northwest League season. His final appearance in a Volcanoes uniform was a 4-for-7 night with two doubles against Tri-City.

Williamson punched his ticket to San Jose the following season, spending 2013 and 2014 with the Advanced A Giants. He posted a .292 average with 25 home runs in 2013 before his 2014 campaign was cut short with a season-ending elbow injury. Williamson picked up where he left off in 2015, hitting .293 with Double A Richmond and posting a .249 / .370 / .439 slash line in 54 games with Triple A Sacramento. Williamson was ranked as the Giants no. 13 prospect and top outfield prospect.

Brown split the 2013 season with Class A Augusta and Advanced A San Jose, still struggling to find his stroke with a .240 batting average on the year. After another poor offensive start to the 2014 season with San Jose, Brown began to thrive with a promotion to Triple A Fresno, where he hit .319 in 23 games with the Grizzlies. This earned him a ticket straight to Triple A Sacramento to begin 2015, playing in 82 games for the Rivercats and compiling a .261 batting average.

The Giants return to action against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at AT&T Park. Bochy said Williamson and Brown will be used in pinch-hit efforts for now, but should the Giants be eliminated from playoff contention, the former Volcanoes may get a chance to start for San Francisco in the final few weeks of the season.
