Porter to Step Down at End of Season

Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC officially announced today that Carson Porter will step down as head coach following Saturday's final regular season match versus Toronto FC II at Legion Stadium.

"When I signed on and joined this club I committed everything I had to it knowing that results with the first team, before any other measure, would be what I was judged on," said Porter. "We did not get the results - no excuses, plain and simple."

Porter began his tenure with the club showcasing a playoff run in 2014 that re-energized the organization, however, it has been followed by a season plagued with injuries, misfortune, and missed opportunities.

"I would like to thank the organization for the opportunity, particularly the player who put all they had into the team and are equally disappointed in the season's results," said Porter. "I look forward to spending one last night with them on Saturday night."

Wilmington currently has an overall record of 3-15-9 leading into their final match of the 2015 USL regular season. The Hammerheads have only claimed one home win this season and stand with a home record of one win, five losses, and seven draws in 13 games at Legion Stadium.

"There is no hiding that I am disappointed with the season," said Porter. "I do not think we got much of a break this year and that is something I do not have an answer for. A couple of missed chances, a few key injuries, an own goal here, a missed penalty there - nothing seemed to go our way. Regardless, the results were not good enough. This was a good team with talented players and we should have been better. I take responsibility for that, that is how this business works, and I wish nothing but the best for the club moving forward."

The Hammerheads have not announced or identified any replacements for the position ahead of the conclusion of the season.
