Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters were unable to keep up with the Camden Riversharks in a 13-9 slugfest on a beautiful night at Constellation Field in front of 2,624 fans. The loss drops the Skeeters to 65-70 on the year.

Unlike the first two games in the series, Camden was able to jump out to an early lead against the Skeeters, pushing across three runs in the top of the third. After two quick outs, Michael Rockett legged out an infield single to second to extend the inning. Paddy Matera followed with a two-run home run to left to break the scoring seal. Carlos Guzman deposited a double down the left field line and came home on a single back through the box off the bat of Evan Crawford, moving the score to 3-0.

The Skeeters would not be denied, however, rallying to tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth. Jeff Dominguez worked a walk to open the frame and Kevin Russo notched a bloop single into right field to allow Dominguez to advance to third. Travis Scott picked up an RBI on a groundout to first, moving Russo into scoring position. Chris Wallace smoked a single to straightaway center field, ricocheting off the head of Rockett, bringing home Russo. After Johan Limonta grounded out to the right-side, Patrick Palmeiro drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Renny Osuna poked a slow-roller up the middle. With shortstop Brandon Chaves trying to record the force at second, he misplayed the ball, allowing Wallace to score the tying run.

Camden responded in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. Chaves was hit-by-pitch to open the frame and Rockett followed with a bunt single to put the first two runners aboard. Guzman singled deep in the hole to shortstop to load the bases before Crawford drove in a pair with a single into the right-center alley, pushing the score to 5-2.

Sugar Land manufactured a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning to claim its first lead of the night. Russo kept the inning alive with a two-out double inside the bag of third and came home to score on a broken-bat single to right from Scott. Wallace launched his 17th-home run of the season with a two-run blast to left, giving the Skeeters the 6-5 edge.

After a leadoff single against Andrew Johnston, Zach MacPhee dropped down a bunt that erased the leadoff single. MacPhee would go on to steal second before coming in to score on a single to right from Michael Rockett, tying the game at six in the sixth.

Sugar Land briefly regained the lead in the top of the sixth. Osuna and Amadeo Zazueta both reached on base knocks to open the frame before Dominguez plated a pair with a single up the middle and came in on a sacrifice fly to push the game to 9-6.

Camden continued to put up crooked numbers in the top of the seventh with four unearned runs. Guzman and Crawford reached on a single and an error, respectively, to start the inning. Cory VanAllen fanned Daniel Rockett before Palmeiro allowed a pair of runs to score on an error. MacPhee reached with two outs on another Skeeters miscue and came home on a bloop single from Chaves to give the Riversharks a 10-9 lead.

The Riversharks added three more runs in the eighth and ninth to put the game out of reach for the Skeeters, giving Camden a 13-9 victory.
