Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Three members of the National Lacrosse League's Rochester Knighthawks were recognized for their play during the 2015 Mann Cup. Dan Dawson, Matt Vinc and Scott Self were named Second Team All-Stars, following a thrilling six-game series which ended with the Victoria Shamrocks winning their ninth Mann Cup.

Dawson, who won his sixth Mann Cup, led the Shamrocks with 18 assists and was second on the team with 22 points. In the decisive sixth game, he dished out eight assists en route to team Game MVP honors as the Shamrocks defeated the Peterborough Lakers 12-6. Dawson was clutch the entire series. In Game 5, with the series tied at two wins apiece, he assisted on the game-winner and scored an insurance goal in a 7-5 overtime victory.

"This is sweet. We earned this and that's what is great about it," Dawson told the Times Colonist. "We didn't make it any easier on ourselves. To do it on home soil like this just goes to show how thankful we are to the fans for staying with us the whole time."

Vinc was also stellar once again in a playoff series, finishing the Mann Cup with an 8.64 goals-against average and a .798 save percentage. The four-time NLL Goaltender of the Year led the Lakers to two victories against Victoria and turned aside 201 shots in the six games.

"'V' kept us in a lot of games and gave us an opportunity to win most nights," said Lakers head coach Mike Hasen. "He was solid and was really good for us out there."

Self joined Vinc on the Second Team, providing veteran leadership to a revamped defensive unit. The Lakers' team captain logged major minutes during the series and even scored a goal in a Game 2 victory.

"Scott played some of the best lacrosse I have seen him play," said Hasen. "He was steady for us and helped keep the guys calm. Off the floor, he kept that group nice and composed, and together while we were out west. He had a great series."

Peterborough advanced to the Mann Cup for the first time in three seasons after knocking off the back-to-back Mann Cup champion Six Nations Chiefs in seven games. After finishing the year two wins shy of a Mann Cup, the Lakers definitely have something to build on for the 2016 season.

"I thought our young guys played unbelievable, so the future bodes well for us moving forward," said Self. "Anytime you play in a Mann Cup, it's a learning process. It's tough both physically and mentally playing so many games in a short amount of time, especially when every game is on the road. It's something you have to go through. Hopefully, we learned some lessons this year that will help us next year."
