Closer Kyle Smith and His 96 Mph Fastball Named PGCBL Top Prospect
September 14, 2015 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Amsterdam Mohawks News Release
Mohawks closer, Kyle Smith, was named the PGCBL Top Pro Prospect as released by PerfectGame USA. Smith, a junior, red-shirted in 2015 at NC State as the Wolfpack coaching staff were converting the Junior College transfer from an infielder to a pitcher. The results were clearly better than expected as for the first time since his sophomore in high school, Smith took the mound on a consistent basis. Armed with a fastball consistently in the 92-94 mph range, Smith hit 96 mph on the radar gun many times during the summer and used a breaking ball that continued to get better, to become the league's top closer.
He finished the season with 5 saves and 38 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.
