Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Camden, NJ - September 13, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (28-34, 54-78) defeated by the Camden Riversharks (26-36, 54-78) 3-2 at Campbell's Field on Sunday night to salvage the finale of the three game weekend series in the Garden State. Bridgeport collected 13 hits overall on the evening, marking the 52nd time they have registered ten or more hits in a single contest.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Robert Carson (6-3) picked up the victory with his fourth quality start, firing six solid innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits, walking two, striking out four and throwing a wild pitch. Camden Starting Pitcher Jeff Singer (1-3) was tagged with the loss, lasting five innings, giving up three runs on ten hits, striking out three and hitting two batters while not issuing a walk and surrendering one home run. Liberty Division All-Star Patrick Mincey tossed a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one to earn his team leading 24th save of the season.

Bridgeport took the early 2-0 lead off Singer in the top half of the first inning on an opposite field two-run home run to right off the bat of Welington Dotel, plating Bryan Sabatella right in front of him after he was hit by a pitch to open up the ballgame, and two batters into the contest the 'Fish had a two run cushion. Dotel "touched 'em all" for the eighth time in 2015, and remains tops on the Bridgeport roster with 67 runs batted in. Dotel was at it again in the third, opening up the frame with a single and then advancing to second base with his league leading 43rd stolen base. CJ Retherford followed next with a run scoring single, and Bridgeport extended the advantage to 3-0.

Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg turned the game over to his bullpen looking for the final nine outs after Carson's impressive six innings of work, and the trio of Steven Ames, Erik Draxton, and Mincey did not disappoint one bit, giving up just one unearned run while striking out two and not issuing a free pass. Mincey closed the door in Camden's final turn at bat. Paddy Matera reached with a two out seeing eye single to left field, and just like that the tying run was at first and the winning run was at the plate in the person of Michael Rockett. With ice water in his veins, Mincey struck out Rockett with a slider and the 'Fish closed out the road portion of their regular season schedule on a high note hanging on for the one run victory. All-Star Jobduan Morales led the offensive attack for the Bluefish with a season-best four hits, his 14th multi-hit game overall on the 2015 campaign.

The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, September 15th when they welcome in the First Half Liberty Division Champion Somerset Patriots for a three game series to begin the final homestand of the 2015 season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 1999 Atlantic League Championship Pin.
