Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

Green Bay, Wisconsin (September 12th) - Bo Hanson was able to score two goals including the game winner in overtime to lift the Muskegon Lumberjacks to their first preseason win 5-4 over the U17 United States National Team Development Program.

The Lumberjacks jumped out quickly getting their first lead of the season with a goal from one of the newcomers Coleman. The line of William Graber, Danny Digrande and Jacob Coleman forced a turnover in the neutral zone and Coleman took advantage of a Digrande pass to the slot, and netted his first in a Lumberjacks uniform. The USTNDP was able to quickly answer as Jacob Tortora received a fortuitist bounce as the puck hit off of a Lumberjack defender and slid into the back of the net.

However, the Lumberjacks kept up the pressure and their hard work paid off when Dante Palecco and Bryan Nelson hooked up for Nelson's first goal of the preseason. However USTNDP was able to answer when Josh Norris scored a power play goal, making it a 2-2 game going into the first intermission.

The second period started with the USTNDP pressuring the Lumberjacks in all areas of the game. A couple quality scoring chances, but nothing to show as the Lumberjacks goalie Niko Dellamaggorie was able to hold his ground. The Lumberjacks were in need of a spark and three veteran players were able to do that as Hanson scored his first preseason goal with help from Robbie DeMontis and Max Humitz. Then quickly after, newly acquired forward Chris Klack scored a power play goal to give the Lumberjacks a 4-2 lead. However, just like the first, the USTNDP was able to score a late power play goal from Logan Cockerill, and the Lumberjacks took a 4-3 lead into the second break.

The third period started with the USTNDP jumping on every opportunity and it did not take long for them to tie the game 4-4. Cockerill was quick on his forecheck and forced a turnover before hitting Joseph Cassetti in the slot for a goal. For the remainder of the period, both teams traded scoring chances but nobody was able to capitalize and the game went to overtime.

The beginning of overtime was back and forth with quality chances. USTNDP hit a post, while a pair of Lumberjacks players almost hooked up to end the game.

It was not until the play moved to 3 on 3 where Hanson executed a give and go with DeMontis to put away the game winner.

The Lumberjacks improved to (1-2) on the preseason. They are in action again tomorrow when they take on the U18 USNTDP at Noon (Est.).
