Big Inning Halts Revs' Winning Streak

York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution saw their season-high-tying five-game winning streak come to an end, falling 6-2 to the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs will go for a series win with the rubber match of the three-game set slated for Thursday evening.

Early on, it was a story of missed opportunities as the Revs stranded a pair of runners in both the second and third, while Somerset left two in the second and three more in the third.

The Patriots set up a threat in the third when Jonny Tucker reached on a tough error at short on a charging effort by Mikey Reynolds, but after a pair of two-out walks loaded the bases, Reynolds made the run-saving play, sliding to his left to pick a sharp grounder before flipping to second for an inning-ending force to keep it scoreless.

Somerset again threatened an inning later, as David Vidal led off the fourth with a single to left and Greg Hopkins walked. After a 27-minute rain delay, Nate Spears laid down a bunt single to load the bases with no outs, but Revs starter Logan Williamson buckled down, striking out Tucker before recording a pop out and a ground out at the top of the order to maintain the scoreless deadlock.

The Revs broke the ice in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run double down the left field line by Andres Perez, extending his league-leading RBI total to 78 for the season. It plated James Simmons who lined a double to left with one out, and Reynolds who sprinted the whole way around from first after reaching on a fielder's choice.

Telvin Nash cracked a one-out double to left-center in the sixth, but was stranded at third as the Revs were unable to extend the lead. It proved to be York's final hit of the night as three Somerset relievers faced the minimum over the final three innings.

Williamson had stranded two more in the fifth, and 10 total through five innings, but the Patriots would finally cash in with a six-run outburst in the sixth. After a leadoff single to left-center by Spears, Tucker connected on a game-tying two-run homer to left, his fifth of the year, leveling the score at 2-2. With one out, Aharon Eggleston took a walk, ending Williamson's night. Thomas Neal greeted reliever Edward Paredes with a hit-and-run single to right, putting runners at the corners. Pinch-hitter Mike Wilson lined a sac fly to center, giving Somerset a 3-2 lead. The inning stayed alive when Matt Fields reached safely on a wild pitch on a swinging third strike, and David Vidal made it hurt with a three-run homer to left-center, putting the exclamation point on the big inning.

Williamson (7-12) suffered the loss, charged with three runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. He walked an uncharacteristically high six batters, the most by a Revs starter this season, though only one of those batters scored. Paredes was tagged with the other three runs in the sixth inning.

Patriots starter Will Oliver (5-1) picked up the win, lasting six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits.

Notes: Perez has 45 RBI in his last 43 games. A streak of eight consecutive games with a home run ended for the Revs, one short of matching a club record set in 2008. The six-run inning was the first allowed by the Revs since August 23, also vs. Somerset. Boggs' team-best eight-game hitting streak was snapped, as was Nash's six-game RBI streak. Going 1-for-3 with a double, Simmons is now 8-for-15 with five extra-base hits on a four-game streak. Luis Perdomo and Josh Judy each worked scoreless innings out of the York bullpen. With three runs charged to the bullpen in the sixth inning, it ended a 16.2-inning scoreless streak for the unit. The Revs slip to 5.0 games back in the division behind Lancaster who was rained out at Southern Maryland on Wednesday night. York righty Matt Neil (2-8, 4.88) will start Thursday's contest opposite Somerset lefty Roy Merritt (7-5, 2.53) with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
