(LONDON, Ontario) - The London Lightning announced Tuesday that Canadian shooting guard Warren Ward has been signed to the team.

"Warren brings a mental toughness and professionalism that will help our younger guys and allow us to play at a high level on a consistent basis. I am proud to have Warren as a member of our family, not only because he is a great basketball player, but also because he is someone I have a lot of respect for as a person. Warren will make our locker room better and our practices more competitive" said head coach Kyle Julius.

Ward played collegiately at Ottawa University and ended his career as the second all-time leading scorer. He represented his country in the 2011 Pan Am Games and in the 2011 World University Games.

Ward began his professional basketball career playing in Germany, one of the top European leagues. Last year, he spent time in France and then played significant role with the Mississauga Power before a season ending injury. He averaged 18 points and seven rebounds in just ten games with the Power which twice awarded him the NBL Player of the Week.

"I'm excited to be here," said Ward. "Kyle is a great coach who has really helped me as a player. I was born in London so when I came back to visit, it felt like home. When I met Vito he talked a lot about what the team does in the community so it's great that I can help our team and the city that I grew up in."

"It's really special to have a former national team player playing for us," said coach Julius, "because that's what this league is all about; allowing the best Canadians to play in their home."
