Berrios, Rogers Named Batavia Downs Players of the Week

Rochester Red Wings pitchers Jose Berrios and Taylor Rogers have been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Players of the Week for the period of Aug. 31-September 7.

Both pitchers went 2-0 in their final two starts of the season. Berrios worked 11 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Rogers pitched 13 innings, allowing 13 hits, two earned runs and a walk with 11 strikeouts.

The 21-year-old was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Papa Juan XXIII High School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico...pitched for the World Team in the MLB Futures Game at Target Field in 2014, and again this July in Cincinnati.

The 11th round pick of the Twins in the 2012 draft after playing college ball at the University of Kentucky...was a mid-season All-Star for Double-A New Britain in 2014, and the top starter on the Rock Cats...twin brother Tyler is a right-handed pitcher in the Giants organization.
